JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - It appears Governor Phil Bryant is down to two choices to serve in the U.S. Senate after Senator Thad Cochran retires next month.
The Clarion Ledger quotes numerous sources saying those two choices are Agriculture Commissioner Cindy Hyde-Smith and Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann.
If one of the two Republicans is selected, that person is expected to run in the November special election against state Senator Chris McDaniel, a Republican, and former Congressman Mike Espy, a Democrat.
Cochran plans to resign on April 1. Bryant would appoint an interim U.S. senator after that.
