KILN, Miss. (AP) — Officials say they've shut down a large moonshine operation on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
WLOX-TV reports that agents with the Alcoholic Beverage Control division of the state Department of Revenue are questioning someone but haven't made any arrests related to the Kiln still.
Possession of untaxed whiskey is a misdemeanor in Mississippi while distilling is a felony.
Agent Kurt Alexander says agents found 20 barrels of fermenting mash, four 55-gallon (208-liter) drums of moonshine and 75 more 1-gallon (3.8-liter) jugs of moonshine.
Inside a shed, officials also found hundreds of pounds of raw materials including corn and sugar.
Alexander says moonshine sells for about $20 per gallon on the Gulf Coast, while it can fetch as much as $50 a gallon elsewhere.
