MADISON, Miss. (AP) — Hundreds of law enforcement officers gathered for the funeral of a 44-year-old Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper killed during a highway traffic stop.
Trooper John Martin Harris was struck and killed by a vehicle Friday in Madison County.
His death remains under investigation.
Nobody has been arrested.
Officers traveled from Mississippi and other states for the funeral at a Baptist church in Madison.
Harris started his law enforcement career in 1997.
He was awarded his first purple heart in 2002 [as] a Friars Point police officer and his second one in 2004 with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.
Harris became a trooper in 2018.
