JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - Mississippi House Speaker Philip Gunn announced his appointments to the commission to recommend a new state flag.
He appointed the following:
- Robyn Tannehill, mayor of Oxford
- Mary Graham, president of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College
- TJ Taylor, longtime Gunn staff member
Gov. Tate Reeves, Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann and Gunn are to appoint three people each to a nine-member flag commission.
The commission will recommend a new state flag. Mississippians will either approve or vote against the recommendation in November.
Mississippi retired its longtime state flag in early July. The flag featured a Confederate battle emblem.
