JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 982 new COVID-19 cases and 13 new deaths Thursday, July 23.
MSDH updates its case totals each morning based on test results from the previous day.

New COVID-19 related deaths reported to MSDH as of 6 p.m. Wednesday:
- Bolivar - 2
- Covington - 1
- Desoto - 1
- Hinds - 1
- Jackson - 1
- Lowndes - 1
- Madison - 3
- Panola - 1
- Pike - 1
- Simpson - 1
As of Thursday, July 23, there have been 48,053 total cases of the virus since mid-March, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 1,436 total deaths.
The state health department estimates there have been 30,315 recoveries.
