JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 589 new COVID-19 cases and 36 new deaths Tuesday, Sept. 29.
MSDH updates its case totals each morning based on test results from the previous day.
New COVID-19 related deaths reported to MSDH as of 6 p.m. Monday. Twenty-one deaths occurred between September 20 and September 28 in the counties below.

As of Tuesday, Sept. 29, there have been 97,638 total cases of the virus since mid-March, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 2,957 total deaths.
The state health department estimates there have been 89,737 recoveries. The MSDH usually updates its estimated recoveries total once a week.
