JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 585 new COVID-19 cases and 26 new deaths Thursday, Aug. 27.
MSDH updates its case totals each morning based on test results from the previous day.

New COVID-19-related deaths reported to MSDH as of 6 p.m. Wednesday:

- Lauderdale - 3

- Lincoln - 1
- Newton - 1
- Pike - 1

- Rankin - 1
- Sunflower - 1
- Tishomingo - 2
- Warren - 2
- Yalobusha - 1
As of Thursday, Aug. 27, there have been 80,695 total cases of the virus since mid-March, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 2,399 total deaths.
The state health department estimates there have been 62,707 recoveries. The MSDH usually updates its estimated recoveries total once a week.
