JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 2,756 new COVID-19 cases and 40 new deaths Thursday, Dec. 31.
New COVID-19 related deaths reported to MSDH as of 6 p.m. Wednesday. Thirty-eight deaths occurred between December 7 and December 30 in the counties below.

Two COVID-19 related deaths occurred between December 22 and December 26, identified from death certificate reports.

As of Thursday, Dec. 31, there have been 215,811 total cases of the virus since mid-March, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 4,787 total deaths.
The state health department estimates there have been 167,263 recoveries.
