The MSDH reported 240 new COVID-19 cases and 5 new deaths Thursday, April 8.

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 240 new COVID-19 cases and 5 new deaths Thursday, April 8.

New COVID-19 related deaths reported to MSDH as of 3 p.m. Wednesday. Four deaths occurred between Feb. 25 and April 6 in the counties below:

Bolivar 1
Harrison 2
Lafayette 1

One death occurred on Jan. 16, identified from death certificate reports.

Alcorn 1

As of Thursday, April 8, there have been 306,851 total cases of the virus since mid-March 2020, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 7,082 total deaths.

The state health department estimates there have been 295,569 recoveries.
