JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 1,342 new COVID-19 cases and 42 new deaths Tuesday, July 28.
MSDH updates its case totals each morning based on test results from the previous day.
New COVID-19-related deaths reported to MSDH as of 6 p.m. Monday:

- Grenada - 2
- Harrison - 1
- Hinds - 11
- Jackson - 2
- Jasper - 1
- Jefferson - 1
- Lauderdale - 1
- Lee - 1
- Lowndes - 1
- Monroe - 2
- Neshoba - 1
- Panola - 1
- Pearl River - 1
- Pike - 1
- Rankin - 2
- Scott - 1
- Simpson - 2
- Stone - 1
- Tallahatchie - 3
- Washington - 1
- Yazoo - 2
Two confirmed COVID-19 related deaths occurred between June 3 and July 27, identified from death certificate reports. The additional deaths were reported in the following counties:
- Forrest - 1
- Lee - 1
As of Tuesday, July 28, there have been 54,299 total cases of the virus since mid-March, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 1,543 total deaths.
The state health department estimates there have been 35,071 recoveries.
