JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 1,074 new COVID-19 cases and 42 new deaths Tuesday, Aug. 4.
MSDH updates its case totals each morning based on test results from the previous day.

As of Tuesday, Aug. 4, there have been 62,199 total cases of the virus since mid-March, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 1,753 total deaths.
The state health department estimates there have been 42,391 recoveries. The MSDH usually updates its estimated recoveries total once a week.
