JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) reported 1,032 new COVID-19 cases and 24 new deaths Friday, July 17.
Friday's report also includes 853 hospitalizations.

MSDH updates its case totals each morning based on test results from the previous day.
New COVID-19 related deaths reported to MSDH as of 6 p.m. Thursday:
- Grenada - 1
- Harrison - 1
- Hinds - 3
- Lamar - 1
- Madison - 1
- Monroe - 2
- Neshoba - 1
- Noxubee - 1
- Pike - 1
- Rankin - 1
- Scott - 1
- Sunflower - 1
- Tate - 2
Seven confirmed COVID-19 related deaths occurred between May 11 and July 7, identified from death certificate reports. The additional deaths were reported in the following counties:
- Coahoma - 1
- Copiah - 1
- Holmes - 1
- Neshoba - 1
- Simpson - 1
- Sunflower - 1
- Washington - 1
As of Friday, July 17, there have been 40,829 total cases of the virus since mid-March, which is when the state reported its first case. There have been 1,332 total deaths.
The state health department estimates there have been 25,932 recoveries.
