LEAKESVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Corrections officials at a South Mississippi prison say they have confiscated contraband cell phones, marijuana and barbequed chicken wings from inmates.
The items were concealed inside footballs and other packages and thrown over a prison fence.
Officials were alerted to the packages moving over the wall by the prison’s sensing technology.
The contraband was split into 25 packages.
The packages included 38 cellphones and 20 pounds of tobacco and rolling papers.
There were also 4 pounds of marijuana and 7 pounds of barbequed chicken wings.
Superintendent Andrew Mills said Security Chief Michael McLendon spotted the vehicle carrying the items.
A search is underway.
