JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - The president of Jackson State University was arrested for allegedly soliciting a prostitute, WLBT-TV reports.
He was arrested in Clinton during the weekend.
William Bynum, 57, faces charges of procuring services of a prostitute, false statement of identity, and simple possession of marijuana.
He was arrested as part of a sting of arrests handled by Clinton police detectives, the Jackson TV station reports.
Bynum has served as president since 2017.
Bynum tendered his resignation as president of the university, the State College Board announced Monday morning, effective immediately. The Board of Trustees will meet soon to discuss interim leadership for the university.
Detectives made 17 arrests during the weekend on prostitution charges after making contact through the dark web.
Another arrest made was Shonda McCarthy, who is listed as a JSU professor.
