MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey is expected to announce whether she will extend a statewide mask order.
The governor has scheduled a news conference at the Alabama Capitol on Thursday morning.
Medical officials are urging Ivey to extend the order amid the rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations that are hindered by a limited national supply.
Dr. Don Williamson, the former state health officer who now heads the Alabama Hospital Association, says the group is among those recommending that Ivey issue an extension.
More than 6,200 people have died from COVID-19 in Alabama, and about 430,000 have tested positive.
