TERRY, Miss. (AP) — Bond has been denied for a 24-year-old Mississippi man who is charged with capital murder in the stabbing death of his mother and aggravated domestic assault in the nonfatal stabbing of his father.
Dimitri Atkins II was arrested Monday and appeared briefly Tuesday in Hinds County Court. He was assigned an attorney from the public defender's office.
Major Pete Luke with the Hinds County Sheriff's Department says the stabbings happened early Monday in the Atkins family home in the Jackson suburb of Terry.
The Hinds County coroner says 53-year-old Sharon Ellis Atkins was pronounced dead at the home. She worked for the Mississippi Forestry Commission.
The father, Dimitri Atkins, remained hospitalized Tuesday.
Luke says there was no history of domestic violence calls from the home.
