ELLISVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Four south Mississippi residents have been arrested on child abuse charges after five children were found malnourished and covered by insect bites.
The four Ellisville residents arrested Friday, according to Jones County sheriff's records, were 36-year-old Douglas Lovett, 30-year-old Rebecca Lovett-Smith, 26-year-old Mary Louge and 35-year-old Stanley Robinson.
Spokeswoman Allyson Knotts says deputies were told young children were being placed in a vehicle with the windows rolled down when they would cry. Knotts says investigators found five children, one an infant, unbathed and underfed. Knotts says investigators provided clothes and food.
Knotts says the five children were places in the care of family members.
All four remain jailed Monday on bail of $12,500 apiece. It's unclear if any of the four have lawyers to speak for them.
