HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Two men have pleaded guilty to reduced charges in the 2015 shooting death of a man in Alabama.
Al.com reported that Shaquille Hyter and Jimmy Leslie pleaded guilty in court in Huntsville in the death of 21-year-old Jerry Caudle.
The men had been charged with capital murder. They pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
The plea deal requires each man to serve five years in prison and five years of probation.
Madison County Deputy District Attorney Maggie Wallace said prosecutors agreed to the plea deal because of the risk of taking the case to trial when the witnesses would have included convicted felons.
Huntsville police say Caudle was shot during a drug transaction.
Twenty-five-year-old Lakesha Dyer is scheduled for trial Monday. Prosecutors said she was with Caudle and planned to sell drugs.
