TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - Tupelo High School defensive back Tay Standifer tore his Achilles during the non-contact first day of spring football practice last Monday, head coach Trent Hammond confirmed to WTVA.

Standifer will miss his senior season after undergoing surgery.

Last season, as a junior, Standifer had 63 tackles and four interceptions. He had two interceptions, including a 75-yard return for a touchdown, in a division championship-clinching win over Horn Lake.

Standifer committed to Ole Miss in December.

Tupelo continues spring practice through May 10.
