SHANNON, Miss. (WTVA) - Shannon has canceled its home football game versus Pontotoc due to COVID-19 concerns within the Shannon football program.
Shannon High School Principal Jason Arledge said the school immediately conducted contact tracing after confirming the report Wednesday.

All activities surrounding the football game on Friday have also been canceled.
And Shannon will not be able to participate in the first round of the Class 4A football playoffs if eligible.
“While this result is disappointing to our players, coaches, faculty, staff, parents, and community members, it is a necessary step to maintain a safe environment and minimize the risk of exposure for everyone involved,” Arledge stated. “We appreciate your continued support of our efforts at Shannon High School. We will continue to take every necessary step to create a safe learning environment for our students and staff, while providing every opportunity for our students to reach their fullest potential. Thank you for being a part of our Red Raider family.”
