TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The annual Ole Miss Rebel Road Trip paid a visit to Tupelo's BancorpSouth Conference Center on Wednesday.
This year's caravan includes three new head coaches: men's basketball coach Kermit Davis, women's basketball coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin, and football coach Matt Luke.
When the Rebel Road Trip was in Tupelo in 2017, Luke was an assistant coach. He was named interim head coach last summer, and following a 6-6 season, the interim tag wa removed in late November.
"The Ole Miss brand nationally is as good as its ever been," Luke said. "We talk about walking through the airports if you have something 'Ole Miss' on it, somebody's gonna say 'Hotty Toddy.' We're just selling the Ole Miss brand, but that's nationally, but being proud of being Mississippi made."
"It's good for me just to meet some of the Ole Miss people and today come to Tupelo, Mississippi, a place where my dad won two state championships in high school," Davis said. "My daughter lives here, my mom, dad, sister, so it's a fun morning for us."
"With three new coaches, three new leaders, they need to see people," said Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork. "People need to see their vision and their energy, so it's great to be among the Ole Miss family."
