OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) - Kermit Davis Jr. will be named the new men's head basketball coach at Ole Miss by the end of the week, according to reports.
Davis has been the head coach at Middle Tennessee State for sixteen seasons. The Blue Raiders are currently playing in the NIT, and Davis is expected to remain with MTSU as long as it's still in that tournament.
Middle Tennessee made the NCAA Tournament the previous two seasons, defeating Michigan State in 2016 and Minnesota in 2017.
Davis has also been a head coach at Idaho and Texas A&M.
Born in Leakesville, Miss., Davis played college basketball at Mississippi State. His father, Kermit Davis Sr., is a former MSU head coach.
Davis would take over for Andy Kennedy, who resigned after 12 seasons as the Rebels' head coach. Kennedy is the winningest coach in the program's history.
