HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WTVA) - The Oxford Chargers won the 6A state championship against Oak Grove on Friday.

The state title is the first in the school's history after losing the title game for three consecutive years in 2013-15.

After the game, Oxford Charger J.J. Pegues celebrated by saying it was nothing but the determination that brought the team this far.

"I got this senior class with me, man, we were counted out since day one; now look at us. That's heart, heart," he said.

The Chargers defeated Oak Grove 31-21.
