OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA/Ole Miss Athletics) – The SEC champion Ole Miss women’s golf team is headed to the postseason for the second time in as many years and for the 11th time overall.
The Rebels earned the No. 9 seed in the Norman Regional, hosted by Oklahoma, and will play at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oklahoma, May 6-8.
“Golf is a game of confidence, so I think last week’s win is definitely going to fuel us for regionals and hopefully we can just build off that momentum,” head coach Kory Henkes said. “The girls are feeling good about their game right now, so we’re looking forward to a great championship and hopefully we can come back with at least a top-6 finish that gets us to the NCAA Championship.”
Several familiar foes will meet Ole Miss in Oklahoma, including SEC counterparts Florida, Mississippi State, and Texas A&M. Texas and Wake Forest make up the top-two seeds.
The top six teams and top three individuals that can best Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club will make it to the NCAA Championship at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas, May 17-22.
“I think anytime you’ve played a regional, you know what to expect,” Henkes said. “You know the best teams are going to be there and you have to bring your A-game. We have some experienced players on our team, as well as some freshmen, so it will be a good combination.”
