OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA/Ole Miss Athletics) – Ole Miss freshman quarterback John Rhys Plumlee was named Southeastern Conference Co-Freshman of the Week by the league office on Monday after setting several rushing records in Saturday's 41-3 win over New Mexico State.
Plumlee had 301 yards of total offense, including two touchdowns and 177 rushing yards. Just missing Rebel rushing record by a quarterback by one yard.
His 75-yard run in the first half was the third-longest rush by a QB is Rebel history.
Early in the game vs. New Mexico State, Plumlee surpassed Nico McSwain's freshman rushing mark of 612 yards set in 2005.
His two touchdowns also put him in the record books for most rushing touchdowns by a freshman in a single season.
In SEC contests, Plumlee ranks third in the conference in rushing touchdowns (five) and fourth rushing attempts (100).
The Hattiesburg, Mississippi, native is second in yards on the ground per game (109.4).
