Ole Miss downs Kentucky in series opener

Will Ethridge had a career-high 11 strikeouts.

OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) - Will Ethridge struck out a career-high 11 batters as Ole Miss defeated Kentucky 8-2 in the opening game of their baseball series Friday night.

Ethridge also allowed just three hits and no walks in seven innings of work.

Cole Zabowski started the scoring for the Rebels (25-10 overall, 9-4 SEC) in the first inning with a three-run home run. Zabowski went 2-for-4 with four RBI while Grae Kessinger went 4-for-5 with a homer and two RBI.

Kentucky dropped to 18-16 and 2-11.

The teams play again Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Swayze Field.
