BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WTVA/Ole Miss Athletics) – Ole Miss women's basketball freshman Mimi Reid has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday morning.
Reid, a redshirt freshman native of Bronx, New York, helped lead the Rebels to two home victories last week vs. Temple and Western Michigan. In both games, she earned the start at point guard while averaging six points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
Reid filled up the stat sheet in Sunday’s 69-66 victory over Western Michigan, tallying a career-high 11 rebounds, six points, five assists, one block and one steal. In Wednesday’s 62-55 victory over Temple, she scored six points, notched five assists and grabbed six rebounds.
The redshirt freshman missed all of the 2017-18 season due to injury, but has quickly made her mark this season. She has started all four games at point guard, leading the Rebels in assists (5.0/game), while also ranking second on the team in rebounds (5.8/game), steals (1.0/game), and minutes (31.5/game).
Reid has been one of the most effective pass-first point guards in the SEC this season, ranking fourth in assists (5.0/game) while boasting an assist / turnover ratio of 2.5. At the national level, she stands at 37th in assists (20).
Up next for Ole Miss is a Thanksgiving week trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands for the Paradise Jam. The Rebels will go up against No. 2 UConn (Nov. 22), Purdue (Nov. 23) and St. John's (Nov. 24) before returning to host TCU for the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on SEC Network on Nov. 29.
