BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WTVA/Ole Miss Athletics) – A pair of Ole Miss women’s golf sophomores earned SEC postseason recognition, the conference office announced Thursday.
Julia Johnson was named second team All-Southeastern Conference, while Conner Beth Ball claimed a spot on the Community Service Team.
Johnson, who was named SEC Freshman of the Year last season, led the team in stroke average this year (72.74) and rounds under par (18).
The St. Gabriel, Louisiana, native finished runner-up individually at the SEC Championship in April, the highest finish by a Rebel golfer in the conference championship in program history.
Johnson becomes the third Rebel in program history to be selected to multiple all-conference teams, joining Megan Breen (1996, 1997, 1999) and Dori Carter (2008, 2009).
“We are so proud of Julia’s accomplishments.” Ole Miss head coach Kory Henkes said. “She has been such a rock for our team and consistently been in contention week in and week out. Being named to the All-SEC team solidifies her hard work.”
Ball, who played in every tournament this season, made an impact off the golf course as well. Among her community service outings, she spent hours at Food for Oxford Schools and the Leapfrog Mentoring Program.
This marks the second straight year that Ball has been named to the SEC Community Service team.
The Rebels are looking ahead after earning a spot in the NCAA Championships, May 17-22, which will be held at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
