Okolona defeats Ashland for 1A boys crown

The Chieftains won their first state title since 2002.

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) - Ladarrius Spears scored 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Okolona defeated Ashland, 80-59, to win the Class 1A boys state basketball championship on Thursday.

Jacorrius Stanfield scored 23 points for the Chieftains (31-2), while Jamal Moore added 20.

Ashland (23-12), which had won back-to-back 1A titles, was led by Deanthony Tipler's game-high 28 points.
