BOONEVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - Just a few months after its return, Northeast Mississippi Community College's men's golf team is in the national rankings.

The Tigers are No. 14 in Golfstat's first regular season poll for NJCAA Division II.

Northeast brought back its men's golf program this fall after a two-year hiatus. Head coach Derek DeVaughn says it's a step in the right direction, but the team is seeking much more.

"We've only got one goal, and that's to get to the national tournament, and that's what we're looking forward to, and I'm hoping the guys can put forth enough effort to play good enough to get there," DeVaughn said.

Last month, Northeast finished fifth as a team in its first MACJC outing at Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Raymond. The Tigers followed that with a fourth-place finish at River Birch Golf Course in Amory.
