ECRU, Miss. (WTVA) - North Pontotoc High School's Sheffield Anthony signed with Northeast Mississippi Community College's baseball program on Wednesday.
Anthony is the Division 1-3A Co-Player of the Year and was that division's Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018. He's hitting .422 this season with three home runs this season.
Anthony is the son of North Pontotoc head baseball coach Chad Anthony.
"It's real special. It's harder at times, but I'll always be thankful for him," said Sheffield Anthony. "He does a great job of not only coaching me, but pushing me as a dad too, and just helping me relax, and just play the game I've played my whole life."
"We talk to the parents about maybe not yelling at your kid from the fence, but I'm yelling at him every second, he'll probably tell you, from the dugout," said Chad Anthony. "So, it's probably been tougher on him, but he's handled it good, and has been blessed to have a great senior year, and couldn't be more proud of him and the work he's put in."
Sheffield Anthony joins current Viking teammates Ethan Dyer and Jake Reeder, who signed with Northeast in February.
North Pontotoc faces Houston in the Class 3A semifinals beginning Thursday, weather permitting.
