PEARL, Miss. (WTVA) - James Clay McGregor tossed a complete game three-hitter as North Pontotoc defeated Magee, 9-1, to win the MHSAA Class 3A baseball championship on Thursday.
The Vikings (23-8) won the first state title in program history after falling short in two previous trips to the finals, including last year.
"It's been a long time coming," said North Pontotoc head coach Chad Anthony. "This is for all the players that have come through our program, all those parents in our community, our school. They've backed us the whole time. These guys played their hearts out, not only for themselves, for God, for the community, and for all the people before them that made this possible."
North Pontotoc never trailed, scoring one run in the first and two more in the second. Sheffield Anthony and Ethan Dyer drove in two runs each for the Vikings.
The Vikings swept the championship series, 2-0, after defeating the Trojans, 12-2, in six innings on Wednesday.
Magee finished with a 30-8 record.
