HOOVER, Ala. (WTVA) -- SEC Media Days are now in the rearview mirror for Ole Miss and Mississippi State. The Bulldogs faced the media and it was head coach Mike Leach's first-ever media day. In true Mike Leach fashion, virtually no topic was out of bounds and he induced quite a few chuckles amongst the media.
Including when he weighed in on expanding the college football playoff:
"I think 12 teams is huge step in the right direction," Leach said. "I personally would like to see 64."
And his thoughts on capacities coming back to full this season:
"You know the crowd is far more animated than a lot of people like those cardboard people in there," Leach said. "I couldn't help but think of the twilight zone."
When it came to the team, Leach spoke about how young the team was, and trying to bring young players up to speed in a new system amidst a pandemic wasn't ideal. This year, he'll lean even more on his upperclassmen like Aaron Brule and Austin Williams, to lead the way.
"We gotta battle through the hard times," Williams said. "I like how we finished the last two games strong, offense coming together, playing more of a complete game."
Both Williams and Brule spoke about how the baseball team's national championship is providing inspiration for the football team going into the season.
"You know everybody is going to take a little piece of that national championship by it being in Starkville," Brule said. "That was a big, big moment for our school and the history of our programs."
Now the final countdown to the 2021 season gets underway.
