STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA/MSU Athletics) – No. 5 Mississippi State’s Teaira McCowan has been named SEC Co-Player of the Week for her performances as the Bulldogs clinched a share of the SEC regular-season title then won it outright on the road.

The Brenham, Texas, native has now won 10 SEC weekly honors, including nine Player of the Week selections, which leads all active players. It is her fifth award of the season, breaking the Bulldogs' single-season record she set with four selections last year.

McCowan recorded her 62nd career double-double on senior night against LSU with 25 points on 10-of-12 shooting and 13 rebounds. She dominated the paint scoring 20 points in the lane and grabbing five offensive rebounds.

On Sunday at No. 15/14 South Carolina, she posted 18 points and 17 rebounds to help the Bulldogs win their second consecutive regular-season championship. She grabbed a key rebound in the final seconds on a missed free throw with a three-point lead and was then sent to the line with a chance to seal the game.

She made the final free throw of the night to claim her 126th career victory, tying the program’s all-time wins record set by last year’s senior class.

MSU holds the No. 1 seed in this week's SEC Tournament and will have a double-bye. The Bulldogs begin play on Friday, March 8 at 11 a.m. CT on SEC Network against the winner of the No. 8 Tennessee/No. 9 LSU game.

Earlier in the day, McCowan was named a semifinalist for the Naismith Award, which goes to the nation's top player.
