MUW releases 2019 volleyball schedule

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA/MUW Athletics) – The Mississippi University For Women volleyball team released its 2019 season schedule on Tuesday morning, highlighted by a season-opening home invitational and seven additional home matches.

The program in its third season under the helm of head coach Roxanne Hernandez will kick-off the season inside of Emma 'Pohl' Gymnasium on Friday, Aug. 30. During the two-day invitational, the Owls junior varsity and varsity teams will make their first appearances against seven opponents from both two-year and four-year institutions. Both sides of the gym floor will be running to accommodate 17 games featuring Bevill Community College, Talladega College, Martin Methodist College, Alcorn State University, Pearl River Community College, Wallace State Community College, and Judson College.

In the second week of play, the Owls will travel to Jackson, Miss. on Friday, Sept. 6 – Saturday, Sept. 7 to participate in the Belhaven/Millsaps Tournament.

Two days later, The W will return home to host NCAA Division I opponent Mississippi Valley State University before going on the road to face Rhodes College the following day. Closing the week, the Owls will travel to Sewanee, Tenn. on Friday, Sept. 13 – Saturday, Sept. 14 to participate in a tournament run by Sewanee: The University of the South.

The Owls will participate in two additional tournaments during the season with one at Huntingdon College on Sept. 21 and a final one on Oct. 11 – Oct 12 at Wallace State. The Owls will also have five additional road games including USCAA-sister institution Judson on Tuesday, Oct. 1 and Division II foe Lane College on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Additional home matches include Central Baptist College (Sept. 17), Lane (Sept. 19), Belhaven (Sept. 24), Southern Union State Community College (Sept. 27), Huntingdon (Oct. 14), and Sewanee (Oct. 17).
