COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Mississippi University for Women (MUW) issued a statement in response to a report from The Dispatch alleging Athletics Director Jason Trufant is cultivating a culture of fear and bullying.
The university provided the following statement:
"We are proud of having been recognized the past eight years as a 'Great College to Work For' by The Chronicle of Higher Education.
We strive to have a campus community that is welcoming and free of harassment and discrimination."
The newspaper reported, “In a five-month investigation, The Dispatch spoke with one current MUW employee, two former student-athletes and six former athletic department employees who described a toxic and bullying culture cultivated by Trufant within the Owls' athletic department that has been largely ignored by higher-ranking administration.”
MUW hired Trufant in the spring of 2016 to lead the university’s return to sports.
