TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - The quarterfinals of the state high school basketball tournament will be played at campus sites this coming season.
Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) associate director Rickey Neaves says the higher seeded boys and girls teams will host quarterfinal round games. The semifinals and finals will remain at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.
Neaves says the change was made to save teams and fans from making as many as three trips to Jackson over the span of a week and a half. He says construction at the Mississippi Coliseum is also a concern.
Neaves says the MHSAA Executive Committee approved the change last Thursday and the schools were notified on Tuesday. He says the new format will be re-examined in the spring following the state championships.
