Local bull rider to compete in national junior high rodeo

Colton Mewbourn will be the only bull rider representing Mississippi at June's National Junior High Finals Rodeo in Huron, South Dakota.

CUMBERLAND, Miss. (WTVA) - Thirteen-year-old Colton Mewbourn is no stranger to high stakes competition.

Mewbourn has been riding bulls since the ripe old age of two.

The seventh-grader at East Webster Junior High will be the only bull rider representing Mississippi in June's National Junior High Finals Rodeo in Huron, South Dakota.

"It'll be a big opportunity for me to win the world championship and get to represent Mississippi well," said Mewbourn.

Mewbourn a three-time junior high state champion will give the opening prayer at June's rodeo.

"It's a great honor that I'll get to share around the world how I love Jesus Christ," said Mewbourn.
