BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. (WTVA/BMC Athletics) - Despite a big comeback and several lead changes, Blue Mountain College's women dropped a non-conference matchup here Tuesday to Mississippi University for Women (9-2), 76-67.
MUW would control the action up until the second quarter when the Lady Toppers started to heat up.
BMC found themselves down by as much as 10 points in the second half, cutting MUW's lead to just five at the half thanks to a big threes from Sloane Rhodes (SO/Loretto, Tenn.) and Alexis Taylor (FR/Collierville, Tenn.).
In the fourth, the Lady Toppers would take their first lead of the game at 8:41 on a bucket by Alexis Taylor, going up 57-56.
The two teams would slug it out with back-and-fourth leads, with Jada Taylor (FR/Collierville, Tenn.) and Marlee Hatcher (SR/Pontotoc, Miss.) both nailing deep threes.
MUW's Qiayon Bailey would be too much for BMC, slashing and driving to help seal the win for the Lady Owls. Bailey finished with 26 points to lead all scorers.
Mackenzie Lane (SO/Pontotoc, Miss.) led BMC with 16 points, while Hatcher had 13 and Jada Taylor scored 11.
The Lady Toppers would hit 10-of-35 from behind the three point arc, while shooting almost 40 percent for the game. They also forced 17 Owl turnovers in the game.
"I was very proud of our team tonight," BMC head coach Lavon Driskell said. "We really competed hard. As I have said, we are seeing many positives in our last few games and we will just continue to build on that. I see a bright future for our team."
BMC (1-7) returns to action Dec. 17 at home in SSAC action against Martin Methodist with a 5:30 p.m. tip.
