STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA/MSU Athletics) – Mississippi State senior center Elgton Jenkins has been named to the 2018 spring watch list for the Rimington Trophy, the organization announced Wednesday. The award is presented annually to the most outstanding center in college football.
Jenkins was one of six Southeastern Conference centers named to the list as the Clarksdale, Miss., native is coming off a 2017 campaign in which he took over a starting role on the offensive line. Jenkins started all 13 contests last season, helping the Bulldogs rack up 5,442 yards of total offense to average 418.6 yards per game. Jenkins is the first Bulldog center named to the list since Jamaal Clayborn in 2016.
Since its inception, the Rimington Trophy has raised over $3.6 million for the cystic fibrosis community. The award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised over $120 million for the fight against cystic fibrosis.
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
