STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA/MSU Athletics) – For the second straight season, the Mississippi State men’s golf team has been selected to the NCAA Championships field. As announced Wednesday night, State will play as the 10-seed in the Louisville Regional, May 13-15 at the UofL Golf Club in Simpsonville, Kentucky.
“I am so proud of this team for getting into regionals for the second consecutive year,” MSU men’s golf coach Dusty Smith said. “They have bought in and have worked hard for this. We look forward to a great week of preparation.”
Teams are set to play one 18-hole round each day, beginning Monday, May 13. The top five teams and the best individual will move on to NCAA Championship play later in the month.
With the announcement, State is scheduled to makes its 11th team regional appearance in program history. In just his second season as head coach, Smith becomes the fourth head man to lead the Golf Dawgs to multiple appearances in the NCAA Championships.
The Golf Dawgs are familiar with the University of Louisville Golf Club, having played at it in the second event of the season, the Louisville Cardinal Challenge. MSU finished fifth, led by junior Peng Pichaikool’s runner-up finish individually.
