LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. (Ole Miss Athletics/WTVA) - Ole Miss golfer Braden Thornberry was named to the PING All-America Second Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Thursday afternoon. Earning All-America accolades for the second consecutive season, Thornberry becomes the third two-time All-American in school history.

Thornberry, the No. 2 ranked amateur in the world, had a big junior season on the golf course. He led the Rebels to another NCAA Regional appearance before qualifying for the NCAA Championships to defend his title as national champion. Thornberry collected four victories this season, increasing his career total to a school-record 11. He earned medalist honors at the Shoal Creek Invitational, FAMC Intercollegiate at The Grove, Hootie at Bulls Bay and Old Waverly Collegiate Championship. The Olive Branch, Mississippi, native ended the 2017-18 collegiate season ranked top 20 nationally in the following categories: versus par (9th at -1.49), par 3 scoring (9th-3.01), birdies (12th-155) and scoring average (15th-70.28).

The list of honors continues to grow for Thornberry. Along with becoming the first Ben Hogan Award finalist in school history, Thornberry was also a finalist for the Fred Haskins Award and a semifinalist for the Jack Nicklaus Award. He became a first team All-SEC honoree for the second straight season, the sixth Rebel to ever accomplish that feat, and earned PING Southeast All-Region accolades for the second consecutive time.

Along with being tabbed a PING All-America First Team selection last year, Thornberry joins Darren Cole and Dave Peege as the only two-time All-Americans in Ole Miss history.
