UNDATED (AP) - Following its largest road victory over a Power 5 non-conference team since 1973, Mississippi State climbed two spots to No. 16 in the Associated Press Top 25 and Amway Coaches Poll released on Sunday.

The Bulldogs remain the fifth-highest SEC ranked team behind Alabama, Georgia, Auburn and LSU. Alabama still holds the top spot in both polls.

It’s the 10th consecutive week that State has been ranked dating back to Oct. 29 last season. It’s also the first time since 2011 that the Bulldogs are in the rankings for the first three weeks of a season.

MSU throttled Kansas State, 31-10, on Saturday in Manhattan as Joe Moorhead became just the fourth Bulldog coach since 1939 to open a career with a 2-0 record, joining Jackie Sherrill (1991), Rockey Felker (1986) and College Football Hall of Famer Allyn McKeen (1939).

MSU limited the Wildcats to 213 yards of total offense, representing their fewest since putting up 110 against Oklahoma on Oct. 17, 2015. Sophomore running back Kylin Hill dazzled on the ground, rushing for a career-best 211 yards on 17 carries (12.4 average) with three total touchdowns. Hill, who forced eight missed tackles, was selected to Pro Football Focus’ National Team of the Week on Sunday.

The victory was State’s largest over a Power 5 non-conference team on the road since beating Florida State, 37-12, on Oct. 13, 1973.

The Bulldogs return home to host Louisiana at 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday in Davis Wade Stadium. Tickets can be purchased at HailState.com/tickets, by calling 1-888-GO-DAWGS or in person at the MSU Athletic Ticket Office on the first floor of the Bryan Athletic Administration Building (288 Lakeview Drive), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
