STARKVILLE, Miss. (MSU Athletics) - Mississippi State football closed the regular season ranked No. 19 in the Amway Coaches poll and No. 20 in the Associated Press Top 25 that were released on Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (8-4, 4-4) dominated rival Ole Miss, 35-3, on Thanksgiving night to claim the fourth time in five seasons. The eight victories by Joe Moorhead were the most by a first-year Mississippi State head coach since Allyn McKeen went 8-2 in 1939.

State was 18th in last week’s College Football Playoff rankings and the Bulldogs are looking to make a move in the final regular season edition of the poll that will be announced at 6 p.m. Tuesday on ESPN.

MSU is ranked for the 19th time in 21 weeks dating back to last season. All four losses occurred to teams in the current top 16. MSU is one of seven SEC ranked teams, joining No. 1 Alabama, No. 4 Georgia, No. 10/11 Florida, No. 12/14 LSU, No. 15/16 Kentucky and No. 22 Texas A&M.

The Bulldogs will learn of their bowl destination on the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 2.
