STARKVILLE (WTVA/MSU Athletics) - Off to a 3-0 start in the Joe Moorhead era, Mississippi State football continued its rise in the national polls coming in at No. 14 in both the Associated Press Top 25 and Amway Coaches Poll on Sunday.

The Bulldogs leaped two spots from No. 16 following their 56-10 victory against Louisiana on Saturday night in Davis Wade Stadium. It's the 11th consecutive week that State has been ranked dating back to Oct. 29 last season. It's also the first time since 2001 that the Bulldogs are in both rankings for the first four weeks of a season.

The No. 14 national ranking is MSU's highest in either poll since finishing the 2014 campaign Nos. 11 (AP) and 12 (Coaches), respectively.

Through three weeks, the Bulldogs are either first or second in the SEC in nine different team statistical categories: scoring offense (No. 2 – 50.0), rushing offense (No. 1 – 311.7), scoring defense (No. 2 – 8.7), total defense (259.0), kickoff returns (No. 2 – 24.9), sacks (No. 1- 10), third down offense (No. 1 – 61.1 percent), sacks against (No. 2 – 2) and third down defense (No. 2 – 23.3 percent).

Moorhead's explosive offense has been on full display, racking up a nation-best 30 20-yard plays from scrimmage, four better than the next highest in the SEC (Texas A&M – 26). A total of 21 of the 30 plays have been of the pass variety, which is also tops in the league and No. 2 in the FBS.

MSU begins SEC play this week when it travels to 3-0 Kentucky for a 6 p.m. CT Saturday matchup at Kroger Field. ESPN2 will televise the SEC opener.
