CENTERVILLE, Tenn. (WTVA/BMC Athletics) – Blue Mountain Women's Golf had a quick turnaround after its second-place finish Tuesday, this time winning the team title over Freed-Hardeman and Bethel (Tenn.) Thursday at the Ripley Moore Collegiate Cup.
BMC would shoot a 351 (+63), eight shots better than cross-state rival Freed (359, +71).
SSAC foe Bethel would shoot 396 (+108).
With 18 women in the event at the par-72, 5,847-yard Centerville Golf Course, Freed's Emily Whitnell won the individual title with a 79, with BMC's Nicole Shanafelt (JR/Huntsville, Ala.) coming in second with an 85 at the one-day match.
Dejone Stemmett (JR/Mpumalanga, South Africa) and Katelyn McCallum (SR/Jacksonville, Fla.) both tied at third for BMC with 87s, while Andrea Huguenin (FR/Biloxi, Miss.) shot a 92 for seventh place. Shanafelt, Stemmett and McCallum all made the medal stand for BMC.
Lucy Martin (SO/New Albany, Miss.) tied at eight with a 93, and Joyann Alderson tied at 13th with a 98.
"I'm really proud of how our ladies played today," said BMC head coach Kevin Barefield. "We're continuing to improve every outing and playing with a lot of confidence. We're off to a great start, but we have to stay sharp and focused for the tough schedule we have ahead."
