TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA )- A woman faces misdemeanor charges after attempting to drive away in an ambulance and charging at a paramedic with a weapon.
Tupelo Police Capt. Chuck McDougald said an ambulance crew was tending to a patient on North Church Street on Saturday.
Paramedics were in the rear of the ambulance when a woman jumped into the driver's seat.
McDougald said the woman tried to drive away, but a paramedic was able to reach into the driver's compartment and turn the key off to stop the ambulance.
The woman jumped out and charged at one of the paramedics with a machete, he said.
Police reported no injuries and the ambulance crew was able to continue care for the patient.
Tupelo police officers and Lee County deputies chased the woman on foot.
The woman faces misdemeanor charges.
McDougald said as the investigation continues, more charges are possible.
