WEST POINT, Miss. (WTVA) - West Point Police Department wants to bridge the gap between residents and officers.
Officers are giving out signs that say, "we pray for our police" and "we honor our police."
Kay-Lynn Hudson and her parents are some of the residents Assistant Police Chief, Kennedy Meaders brought a sign to. They put the sign on their lawn.
Kay-Lynn believes everyone should support the department's initiative.
“They make sure everybody’s fine and they make sure everybody does what they need to do,” she said.
Assistant Chief Meadors said he hopes the signs will help bring in support from residents. He also said it’s a way to gain trust and respect back from the community.
"We want to accomplish that we are out there for them and we will do everything we can to make sure they are treated right and treated with respect,” he said.
Meaders said the department is planning on putting the signs inside local stores so people can buy them.
