West Point man arrested in fatal Columbus shooting

Updated - Columbus Police arrested a West Point man 24 hours after a fatal shooting.

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Columbus Police arrested a West Point man in a Thursday afternoon shooting.

Police Chief Fred Shelton said officers arrested 18-year-old Shaquavas White. 

White has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a Columbus man.

Shelton said more arrests could be made in this case.

Meanwhile, close friends of the 18-year-old shooting victim, Xavier Dora, are speaking out.

Sharaye Jones, a friend of Dora, said, “We lost a good one. He didn’t bother anybody. I just feel like the gun violence needs to stop.”

Other friends said the community needs to have more activities for kids to do so fewer children will run the streets.
