COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA)—Volunteers in Lowndes County served hundreds of families with a food drive.
The United Way of Lowndes County partnered with many other local organizations to giveaway non-perishable food items to residents.
Executive Director Renee Sanders said this food drive is the second one they’ve held this year.
Friday’s drive was a different one. Sanders said, ““With this one we’re trying to get items that they can do multiple meals with.”
Andy Kilanowski, member of the East Lions Club, volunteered for both food drives this year.
He said the volunteers mission was to serve.
“All the community volunteers whether they’re from a church or from a youth group they want to serve. That’s what we’re about is serving others.”
Sanders said the goal was to serve over 750 Lowndes County families.
The final count of families served is 759.
